1993, alternative rock was the big thing, and Arista, like most other sheep-minded major labels, decided it needed some long-haired semi-grunge/sort-of indie stuff on the roster to be hip. Which is a bit cruel, perhaps, but Funland was a fairly generic prospect, OK, but never going to be much more than that. Sweetness, apparently the only thing the band released, has a few pleasant moments, while lead vocalist Peter actually has a singing voice but doesn't show off with it. There are semi-blues tunes like "Sack Hop," a song entitled, but of course, "Hate Song" -- it's all pretty unspectacular, another drop in the post-Nirvana ocean. Ultimately, the fact that the only truly noticeable thing about the release (besides the Peter Bagge cover illustration) is a remake medley of two Air Supply songs with the oh-so-ironic title "Obligatory Cover (For the Kids)" that says it all.
