What sets Mike Milosh's debut album apart from all the other downtempo djs out there? He can, and does, sing on his record. Blippy beats, static-laced percussion, soft keyboard melodies and subtle layers of texture and fuzz provide the groundwork for his soulful, heart-felt vocals.
Without venturing too close to the point of crossing over into the electro-pop territory, You Make Me Feel will draw you in. Upon initial listen, you will be drifting deeper and deeper into the warm ambiance while being uplifted with optimism at the same time. Midway through, as you think you have a feel for what this record is all about - a little more variation keeps you listening through the end.
Something Good promises "Something good is going to happen...with you." (Other than finding yourself with a great new record in your collection.) And with it's warm latin-flavored guitar, you have no choice but to believe. Your Voice contains a great sample-turned-rhythm layer of glasses being stacked or beer bottles banging together that is almost worth the price of the CD. Well, maybe that sample alone is not that good, but this record itself is definitely worth picking up if your into downtempo electronica but dig the variation the vocals provide to keep your attention.
While most tracks serve as a showcase for his vocal talent and positive songwriting, the production is always solid and the handful of tracks that remain instrumental hint at a bright future. [justaddnoise.com]
