FOU are new to the Metal scene after the members quit playing with their other bands. This band works as one cohesive unit and the band is lethal at what they do. Once again the band throws plenty of melody to their harsh vokills and guitar riffs. The band takes off running on ⌠The Seventh Sunray■ and you will notice that while the guitars contain catchy riffs and are very melodic, you will notice that the drums are tuned to sound like 90's old school Death Metal.
One would think that this would clash with the modern sound that the band plays, but remarkably it works out. It seems like that more and more Melodic Death Metal bands incorporate blast beats to their catchy sounds and for the most part it works. Ingo punishes his drum skins by letting the blast beats fly with ⌠Shapes Of The Pursuers■. This track is wicked sick and along with the twin guitar leads that could make the Amott brothers jealous as well as the acoustic guitar playing, FRAGMENTS OF UNBECOMING show that they are a force to be reckoned with. The band shows just how proficient they are with the technical and catchy guitar work and the powerhouse drumming. After a while, the songs begin to slowly sound the same. It seems like the band was starting to run out of ideas, but had just enough to complete this CD.
Although the band doesn't add anything new to the genre, they play with great force and have plenty of talent in them. The CD overall is very good from the musicianship to the production. I just think that the guys will have to be pushed to the limits next time around to see what else they can pull out of their sleeves. I think they have the chops to survive, but they will need a really good producer to make them stand head and shoulders above the rest. If you like your Melodic Death Metal with plenty of hooks, catchy riffs, rhythm, melody and vokills that can wilt flowers, then you have come to the right place.
