thnx to my firends Simon & Garfunkel - 1997 Old Friends Columbia Box Set. Remastered SBM by server_alliance Review from SonyMusicStore Old Friends (October 1997 long box; August 2001 cube) chronicles the stellar career of two of America's most beloved folk-rock musicians. Spanning some thirty years, the 3-CD set's repertoire was chosen with the help of Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel and their long time creative collaborator and producer/engineer, Roy Halee. Included are all their hits, classic album tracks, as well as 15 previously unreleased gems (demos, live performances, and unissued studio recordings.) Using only the absolute original source tapes, which were painstakingly sought out by compilation producer Bob Irwin, this set was mastered by Vic Anesini using the patented SBM process for pristine sound quality. The box set features comprehensive and insightful liner notes by David Fricke, along with previously unpublished and rare photos, giving true Simon & Garfunkel connoisseurs an in-depth look at the genius of these two musical innovators. This cubed box is also available in the original long box version (C3K 64780). Review from Amazon.com This three-disc collection features 15 previously unreleased tracks including live material, demos, and studio outtakes previously unreleased, alongside a substantial number of the duo's hits. Early demos point up Paul Simon's excellent acoustic guitar fingerpicking and emerging songwriting. "The Sound of Silence" is featured in its original undubbed form and the later overdubbed band version that became the hit. The duo's strongest work is all here, and the addition of several B-sides makes this a helpful collection to have around. --Rob O'Connor |
