Wow! Explaination may be needed. I am a child (wannabe musian) of the 80's (born circa 68). I have always loved hard, integral, but grooving rock. Needless to say we didn't see enough solid old school hard rock bands during my high school years. We had to step back and wonder. During one of my attempts to scratch the soil of the almost forgotten early 70's UK rock bands, I came across Alex Harvey and his Sensational Band...Now for my comments.
When I first listened to this disk I was not blown away. As with many fans, I think I forced my first exposure to the band. Not knowing what to expect, it did not smack me, although it has many, in the face as a strong record. I really didn't think much about it and thought I would give it another listen when I had more time to kill. How wrong was I! I first realized I was hooked when I was driving down the road two days later and couldn't get the infectious grooves of the first listen out of my head. The music is simple at times and complex at others, but always compellingly strong. The mix of musical styles and influences is intriging for a person only exposed to the usual commercial music. You have to search for jewels and in this recording you have one. As I am sure is the case with my friends (good ole boys), your friends probably won't give this band a chance, and may think you are a little nuts. But hear me as you read...this will become one of your favorite discs. 1. Hot City Symphony: Vambo/Man in the Jar 2. River of Love 3. Long Hair Music 4. Hey 5. Sergeant Fury 6. Weights Made of Lead 7. Money Honey/Impossible Dream 8. Tomahawk Kid 9. Anthem
