This release on CMC is a bit deceiving. They put it out as a Steve Howe/Paul Sutin album, no doubt attempting to draw on Howe's considerable reputation and following. The truth of the matter, however, is that this is just a reissue of an album by Paul Sutin that featured Steve Howe. Indeed, Howe only plays on five of the eight songs here. The liner notes on this release do not reveal that fact, but when one looks at the original album, the story is clearly told. The CD itself is a fine new age release that creates great melodies and textures. Certainly many fans of Howe will like the disc, but one has to question the integrity of billing it as a Steve Howe album. After all, those who have come to enjoy the maestro's version of guitar wizardry will probably be disappointed with this release based on those expectations. |
