Wikipedia reviewQUOTE: | Who's That Girl is the first soundtrack album by pop singer Madonna, released on July 21, 1987 by Sire Records. It was compiled to accompany the motion picture, Who's That Girl, in which she also starred. Released in the summer of 1987, it was, unlike the flop film, a major success, being certified Gold & Platinum in the U.S on Jul 29, 1987, denoting 1 million shipments there & selling in excess of 5 million copies worldwide.
Madonna contibuted four songs to the soundtrack, continuing her work with Patrick Leonard and Stephen Bray (he also composed the music to the motion picture). Unlike the movie, the Who's That Girl soundtrack became an instant international smash hit, with the title track peaking at number one in the United States, UK, Puerto Rico, among others. The album's second single, "Causing a Commotion," became another top five hit (peaking at #2 in the US). The third song released from the album was the minor hit "The Look of Love" which was release outside of North America and charted in the Top 10 in the UK.
Although Who's That Girl is generally regarded as a Madonna album, as she was the main performer, the soundtrack also features five other music acts. In fact, Duncan Faure's "24 Hours" and Michael Davidson's "Turn It Up" were also released as singles. Madonna later performed "Who's That Girl", "Causing a Commotion" and "The Look of Love" on her 1987 Who's That Girl Tour. In 1990, she performed "Causing a Commotion" for her Blonde Ambition Tour. She has not performed material from this album since. |
