thanks to the original releaser! Review (Wiki) Trespass is the second studio album by Genesis and was recorded and released in 1970. The only album with drummer John Mayhew and the last with guitarist Anthony Phillips, Trespass had a folk-flavoured progressive rock sound that was a marked departure from their earlier work, and foreshadowed the path the band would follow through the 1970s. The compositions were generally much longer and complex than before, featuring several different musical sections. The sound evokes a kind of 'pastoral English idyll' espoused by numerous progressive rock bands of the time. To this end, much use is made of multi-tracked 12-string acoustic guitars, blended with folky vocal harmonies, flute, acoustic piano, and gentle keyboard pads on Hammond organ and mellotron. The drum playing is generally fairly soft, which actually complements the atmosphere, although the band were unhappy with John Mayhew's skills and replaced him with Phil Collins following Trespass' completion and Anthony Phillips' departure. Despite its generally muted, pastoral, folky feel, the album is not without dynamic moments. Peter Gabriel's vocals are soulful and angst-ridden throughout, particularly at the climax of "Stagnation", which also includes a prominent Hammond organ solo from Tony Banks. Closing track "The Knife" is aggressive and bombastic, featuring some biting lyrics from Gabriel, with Mike Rutherford playing fuzz bass. The song, which received great praise by The Nice's Keith Emerson,[citation needed] became a favourite closer to live shows and appeared - with lyrical changes - on Genesis' 1973 first live album Genesis Live.

All of you are crazy!!! What i'm viewing???? MCA sounds really EQ'd..., and compressed!!!! OH NNOOOOO!!!!! Just compare it with SoundForge!!!! The DE Remaster have less EQ and compression!!! Come'on, raise up the V/C volume and it don't sound 'muted' anymore.. p.s: hint: the compressed versions don't allow you to raise the volume too much, cause' they are COMPRESSED and causes EAR BLEED!!!! |

bertox maybe you are right, I've only listened on PC headphones |

Some times when i listening something 'compressed' the first impression is that the sound is 'robust' and 'tasty', but these sensations disappear right after i test the un-compressed versions, cause' i prefer 'natural' sound instead to 'tasty' sound. The music (except electronic) don't sound compressed. The instruments sound don't be compressed. The 'robust' and 'tasty' effect are only a 1st illusion, maybe made to sell more copies and by deaf new generation engineers. I've listened with headphones too. |

Мне вот интересно...компрессия по идее должна делать запись громче, правильно?
То есть на большинстве треков MCA тише. |

this only shows the peaks, not the dynamics. and the MCA EQ is a circus... |

Can you post dynamics pictures for these two versions, pls? ps. i am not at home now, so i can't compare |

Вопрос.. Судя по скринам выше, на MCA звук слегка "замылен", если можно так выразится. Может там присутвует pre-emphasis? translation: Maybe there is pre-emphasis on MCA Canada disc? |
Posted by: bertox on 04-07-2008, 07:26 |
i don't think so.., but, maybe you can do a probe with foobar convolver... i will do the test... and..., well, thanks for the graphics, i hope that you note the MCA compression details, evident now with this visual help. |

I did the test. the EQ still there. also i don't see 'pre-emph' highs anywhere... and..., isn't a compression like in 'Californication'.., but it is at least. ps.: Can you post the DE images? |
