Back in 1995, em:t co-founder Martyn Watson hooked up with leading producer Ric Peet (Charlatans, Muse, Bent) to form IPG. They became the label’s standard-bearers and the resulting album became one of the its biggest sellers. They were the first to break free of what Martyn calls the genre’s "Stalinist Year Zero" where beats were anathema, dropping in dubby rhythms, breakbeats and sounds and images from across the musical spectrum. IPG’s concept – that of a "gang" in which everyone was included – lent itself to the album: nothing was impossible, no idea unwelcome. This is never more apparent than on 9 Churchill Drive. Their first ever track was Martyn’s reflection on the place he grew up and one where warm, sinuous basslines come embellished with everything from bagpipes, sirens and underwater effects, to trains, distant guitars and carnival horns.
IPG released their first album '3395' in 1995 on em:t records, one of the UK's finest ambient electronic labels and sister label of t:me.
