"Polish Funk" series hit the spot responding to the strong need of such a record among wide audience. It was named record of the week by Piccadilly Records from London, Dusty Groove record shop from Chicago called it "a wonderful introduction to the kinds of grooves we've been digging from Poland for years" and became a patron. Jazzman Records (UK) calls it "an album espousing the strength and diversity of funky jazz recorded behind the Iron Curtain in '70s Poland". Fat City (UK) calls it "Genius compilation on the so far little know funk sound of Poland in the 70s (...) compiled by the Polish DJ Team Super Soul Service will satisfy everyone but those with the dustiest knees!". "Polish Funk" was also acclaimed very warmly by Polish artists whose compositions appeared on it. Ewa Bem, a famous Polish jazz singer, (interviewed by a Polish newspaper Dziennik) calls it, "...a superb record, that gives a chance for Polish music to be introduced to the new dance generation". Halina Frackowiak, a very popular Polish pop singer calls "Polish Funk" "...a record compiled by well known Polish DJs with an excellent selection with some of most valuable Polish funk/soul tracks. Recommended for all, not only funk lovers". Lukasz Kaminski in Gazeta Wyborcza wrote "...led by pure love to funk music (Soul Service DJs) searched through the Polish phonography to expose some true pearls..." and "...none of contemporary Polish pop artists is capable of creating such a song that would be as danceable and interesting as tracks compiled on "Polish Funk". Polish cultural informator Aktivist wrote "If the phrase "Polish Funk" sounds a bit strange to you its time to correct your point of view. Soul Service DJs prepared a compilation that shows Polish achievement on this music field. And it really rocks!" Funk is the best dance music ever made. Its main clue is the pulsing rhythm, to which all instruments and vocals are slaved. This rhythm is a basis to every DJ party mix all over the world. "Polish Funk" series is a compilation of Polish 60's and 70's music propelled by this groove. It was selected by DJs to be mixed on the parties. The music here is unique itself. Often, the tracks you have here, were never re-released, and were dug out of the forgotten Polish record labels' vaults. The entire recordings were re-mastered from original mother tapes to squeeze their funky juice. In addition, it is the first time that Polish 60's and 70s music was put together into one compilation due to their "funkiness" factor. Everything you may expect under the name "funk" is on our compilation. Ready to hit your dancefloor. (Burn Reynolds, Cpt. Sparky, Papa Zura and DJ Misty - Soul Service DJ team)
Genius compilation on the so far little know funk sound of Poland in the 70s! All Polish artists, you can tell the influences of black America but all given a Slavic twist. Kicking off with a track that Pablo fans may recognize, and continuing through funk, soul, disco and bossa styles this LP, compiled by the Polish DJ Team Super Soul Service will satisfy everyone but those with the dustiest knees! (Fat City, UK)
A unique compilation of '70's rare groove from Poland, first time these are available after their initial release! A mix of jazz, funk, fusion, brazil type of sound & electronic output. Compiled by the Soul Service DJ Team from Poland. The record comes in a gatefold cover with liner notes on all the tracks. Check! (Rush Hours, Holland)
Listeners familiar with our regional funk Jazzman albums from the US will be interested to see a similar album espousing the strength and diversity of funky jazz recorded behind the Iron Curtain in '70s Poland. Includes stuff from the highly-regarded 'String Beat' album, Novi singers and many others that are, as expected, completely unpronounceable. (Jazzman Records, UK)
The Polish Soul Service DJ team have been digging in their crates and the archives of Poland's record labels to bring us this unique compilation of 70s rare grooves from their homeland. A mix of jazz, funk, fusion, Brazilian style grooves and electronic music, the album serves up a host of rare music from the East. For the majority of tracks, this is the first time they have been made available since their initial release! (Piccadilly Records, UK)
A definite "unique selection" of grooves here -- not just because the rare tracks are all from 70s Poland, but also because most of them have never been reissued either! The package is a wonderful introduction to the kinds of grooves we've been digging from Poland for years -- that mad mix of jazz, funk, fusion, electric, and vocal elements that somehow managed to flourish wonderfully during the 70s years of Soviet control -- a real musical marvel, considering the setting -- and because of tight border control, very few of these tunes ever made it out to the west! The track selection differs a fair bit from the kinds of full length Polish jazz albums that have been released to date -- as many of the titles here are groovier, funkier, and more electric -- and in case you're wondering, there's also very little crossover with the Compost Polish jazz set from a few years back.
