Brutal Planet is the 21st studio album by Alice Cooper, released in 2000.
Lyrically, it is dark "social fiction", but nevertheless deals with real-life themes such as domestic violence ("Blow Me a Kiss") or school shootings ("Wicked Young Man"). It has been erroneously reported that this album is the second in a trilogy; however, Cooper has stated it has no relation to his previous work The Last Temptation. It is followed by a sequel, Dragontown, described by Cooper as the worst town on the Brutal Planet.
Doug Van Pelt, editor of the alternative Christian music-oriented HM Magazine, found that the lyrics communicated biblical morals "in a very powerful way". Van Pelt stated further that the final argument is provided in the title track, which condemns the systems of judgment that the world uses. Moreover, "Blow Me a Kiss" urges the listener to think deeper about spiritual matters.
* The songs "Gimme" and "It's the Little Things" had official music videos. * Six years passed between The Last Temptation and Brutal Planet, making it the longest break Cooper has taken to produce a new album. * A song called "Can't Sleep the Clowns Will Eat Me" was going to be on this album but Cooper thought it didn't fit with the other songs so it was removed. It first appeared as a bonus track on the Japanese and Australian releases of the album, then appeared worldwide on the Special Edition version of Dragontown in 2002. |
