The Garden Of Bleeding 09. Bedlam 123 There are a lot of things in everyday life you can associate in one way or another with a country, a city or a continent. When I tell someone who's not from the Netherlands that I live there, most reactions have something to do with either Amsterdam, clogs or (in most cases) weed. With a lot of musicstyles this is no different and when it comes to Thrash Metal, the Bay Area immediately comes to mind. For the younger generation reading this, the Bay Area in San Fransisco is where bands like Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Testament (and a lot more) have started their career. Exodus, also from the Bay Area, was one of the first thrash bands and "Exhibition of Atrocities" is their third album since their reunion, and to be honest, it's one massive foot in the face of everyone who ever thought Bay Area thrash was no more. This truly brings back memories of when I first heard "Master of Puppets". This is how Thrash Metal should be. It's fast, agressive and gives the irresistible urge to bang your head wherever you're listening to this album. The drumming is top notch, Tom Hunting pounds his kit like there's no tomorrow, but also manages to find a few spots to make some room for more groovy drumpatterns. The guitar duels, while mandatory, work out really well and are fun to listen to, while the crunchy riffs relentlessly assault your ears, and vocalist Rob Dukes is just.... evil. He keeps spitting his lyrics with such venom, it's amazing he managed to keep it up for a whole record. This is one pissed off album. Highly recommended to anyone who misses the days when Metallica could actually play metal, no wait.... Highly recommended to anyone. Great Album. |
