Although largely forgotten in the 20th century, Christian Heinrich Rinck was one of the best-known and respected composers of church music in Germany at the time of his death in Darmstadt in 1846.Today, Rinck is remembered primarily for his many compositions for the organ, but he also composed a large number of strikingly original choral works, in addition to works for piano and even some chamber music. Rinck studied with the great German organist Johann Christian Kittel in Erfurt, who himself had been a pupil of Johann Sebastian Bach, and Rinck's music forms a direct line of development from the Cantor of Leipzig. Above all, RInck was a dedicated composer for the church, stating that music for religious worship should be earnest, free of any flirtation and be appropriate for the dignity of the church service.
On this recording, the distinguished music scholar and conductor, Ulrich Stotzel once again has lovingly restored and prepared his own performing editions to bring these forgotten miniature masterpieces to life.
