AMG Info:

There’s nothing like the Christmas season for record companies to gather us a retrospective history of a band and release a best of. This time around, we have the best of what former White Zombie front man and now solo artist Rob Zombie has to offer. The first half of this double album compilation pretty much sums up Zombie’s best work from, as the title would suggest, the past, present and future. Kicking off from the White Zombie days, there’s ‘Thunder Kiss ‘65’ and ‘Black Sunshine’ from 1992’s ‘La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol. 1’. 1995’s ‘Astro-Creep: 2000 – Songs Of Destruction And Other Synthetic Delusions Of The Electric Head’ is represented by ‘More Human Than Human’ and ‘Super Charger Heaven’. Some soundtrack contributions are also added, with tracks such as ‘Feed The Gods’ (‘Airheads’), ‘I’m Your Boogie Man’ (‘The Crow: City Of Angels’), ‘House Of Death (Burn Baby Burn)’ (‘Songs In The Key Of X: Music From And Inspired By The X Files’) and ‘The Great American Nightmare’ (‘Howard Stern: Prive Parts’) helping making up the numbers. ‘Dragula’, ‘Superbeast’ and ‘Living Dead Girl’ are lifted from 1998’s ‘Hellbilly Deluxe’, while 2001’s fantastic ‘The Sinister Urge’ has ‘Feel So Numb’, ‘Never Gonna Stop (The Red Red Kroovy)’ and ‘Demon Speeding’ marking the best the album has to offer. Two songs lifted from last years ‘Hose Of 1000 Corpses’ soundtrack are O.K., but the tribute to the Ramones (‘Blitzkrieg Bop’) is far superior. The two new tracks ‘Two-Lane Blacktop’ and ‘Girl On Fire’ sit well like the material off ‘The Sinister Urge’ without straying too far from the Rob Zombie design, and should fare well with fans of the artists previous efforts. What really caps off the whole collection however is the second disc. The ten-track D.V.D. features the two classic White Zombie promotional videos (‘Thunder Kiss ‘65’ and ‘More Human Than Human’), while the remainder are lifted from Rob Zombie’s two solo albums (Of which ‘Demonoid Phenomenon’, ‘Return Of The Phantom Stranger’ and ‘Spookshow Baby’ are previously unreleased). Although this is best of hardly warranted (After all, he only has two genuine solo albums), Geffen Records have put together a good collection of material that shows the progression of Zombie throughout the years. Unlike most compilations, this will appeal to those who are simply after one album of Zombie’s work, while the bonus material will attract those who own everything else. - Justin Donnelly
