For over a decade Archive - a British band but with a more dedicated following in France and Germany - have been churning out lauded albums perfect for getting lost in. Their fourth album, released in 2004 in Europe, draws from The Doors or Pink Floyd's book of tricks by utilizing dark, mesmerizing tones intertwined with melody.
Whilst not prepared to fully take the plunge into the deep end of prog-rock, the album flirts with it sufficiently enough at times to create an expansive, almost cinematic soundscape. This is all well but a multitude of styles and musical layers requires a dexterous helmsman who can prevent the album sounding rudderless. The first two tracks "Noise"- and "F*ck U" are successfully navigated; with their multi layered. neo-psychedelic feel and deft production you wonder why the band has stayed below the collective radar for so long. Broody and intoxicating, part NIN, part Massive Attack the slow burning nature of the songs burrows under your skin in almost parasitic fashion. In particular, "F*ck U" -- name apart -- offers mainstream radio-play potential such is its hypnotic melody. It-s therefore a shame that after that the album descends into an insipid, dirge aptly exemplified by "Get Out" - an almost carbon copy of the Oasis track "Stop Crying Your Heart Out".

Their hybrid prog-rock/trip hop sound struggles with the multi-layered format and if there's a tune struggling to get out, it doesn't seem to make much of an effort. With "Waste"- it seems they took prog rock to mean that the track needs to be pointlessly long; almost 10 minutes. Time seems to stretch as jagged guitars move along devoid of direction. The string-laden ballads offer no respite sounding impotent and unnecessarily self-reverential. Even the lamenting vocals offered by main vocalist Danny Griffiths - which vary from soft whisper to the howling shriek - fail to inject any feeling. Whilst attempting to amalgamate various styles and offer multi-layered compositions they have succeeded only in creating an aptly titled record.

проблеми с русским шрифтом(видает иероглифи) на етом саите. не знау у ково проблема у меня или тут и как решаетьса
