When the three Gentlemen of Twinset - dressed in finest thread - from Wellington / New Zealand are taking the charge a classy result is always guaranteed. And in any case more relaxed than one would assume. Paul K. Hoskin (drums) together with the twins Christopher Yeabsley (organ) and Daniel Yeabsley (tenor/alto/soprano sax) form a nonchalant somewhat hipster-version of the classic jazztrio for the 21st century - but careful with pigeonholing them, Twinset proceed with their new and already 5th album as normal: deeper, higher and further. Cleverly reduced, shrewd taken back club jazz with an attitude as if made for people who usually don't go for jazz. In addition mixed with this certain humor and class between and in every litte blue note. After having mainly very subtle breakbeat, roots and dub influences make the very relaxed Twinset-sound of their last record "Mystical Soul" (2004) dateless modern, with "Lifestyle" the three are returning to their roots: boogaloo is the theme and Twinset could even be seen as its inventors so mercilessly serene are Paul, Christopher and Daniel grooving through the nine demonstratively timeless compositions. You could search for them elsewhere but won't find anything alike. "When we are listening to boogaloo, swing or bossa it always raises a smile in us. This kind of music puts into good humour." Already the brazen creeping opener "Boil The Jug" shows the direction: the popcorn may pop but the lid stays on the pot. A typical Twinset mood appropriately called "Out-Of-Bed-Feeling" in the very humorous linernotes of "Lifestyle". And this feeling is like a thread through the new album during its mastering soundmaster Mu - from the environment of Fat Freddy's Drop - again had his exceptionally gifted finger and ears in the pie. "The Gentlemen from Twinset present: Lifestyle"? It can be taken literally! Without ruffle we we should loosen up a bit. Why always chase the "hottest shit" if we can have the coolest just like that. by soulseduction
