The band's debut cd 'Ferrum Gravis' was recorded without any modern stuff or computer gadgets dominating on too many cd's nowadays. Viron has chosen for the easy way: just let the music do the talking! Fortunately, the music on this cd is quite well. 'Ferrum Gravis' contains nine 'in your face' heavy metal anthems in the style of Blind Guardian during their 'Somewhere Far Beyond'album. Speedy heavy metal with lots of melody dominating this (very well produced) album. With the presence of some mid tempo songs ('On The Run') and a beautiful ballad ('War', reminding me a bit of Sonata Arctica), the album has enough variation to offer, which makes it a lot more enjoying to listen to. Speed is great, but too much is never enough. Viron was aware of this and therefore recorded some mid tempo stuff besides the fast stuff. 'Beyond The Gates' is my personal favourite. It is a slow, haunting composition and it has some great guitar parts in the middle of the song. The songs are performed very well. The music sounds very tight (Neudi is a killer drummer!) and is professionally performed. Lead singer Alexx Stahl has quite a good voice that perfectly suits with the music. Unfortunately the album has a couple of weaker moments. 'Metal Ball' and 'Led Astray' are quite meaningless songs that did not leave a great impression on me. The final song is a great eleven minute epic, which makes 'Ferrum Gravis' all in all a promising album. Do not expect something new or original on this album, you will not find any, but for a debut album, this is very well done. |
