Creedence Clearwater Revival - 1969 Willy And The Poorboys
2002 SACD. Steve Hoffman's Remaster

Product Description
Willy and the Poor Boys
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Hybrid Stereo SACD (Analogue Productions CAPP 8397 SA)

This is a Hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
Opening up with the feel-good, down-home groove of the hit "Down on the Corner" and featuring all-out, belligerent roots rock like "Fortunate Son" and loose, soul-drenched instrumentals like "Side Of The Road," WILLY AND THE POOR BOYS is sensational from start to finish. Throughout CCR's brief career, their sound was a musical evocation of a mythic rural South, and WILLY AND THE POOR BOYS is arguably the most Southern-sounding of all their records. Even though this ten-song album is padded out with cover versions of such folk-blues standards as "Cotton Fields" and "The Midnight Special," John and brother Tom Fogerty's ragged electric guitar playing and the minimalist bass and drum work of Stu Cook and Doug Clifford make these well-known songs sound like Creedence originals.

Finally, CCR that doesn't have that distorted treble sound. Who'd have thought CCR could sound warm? The separation in this stereo SACD is great. Another fantastic job of SACD mastering by Analogue Productions.

This was CCR's 4th album and has CCR's typical mix of relaxed pickin' songs, pop hits and raging fury. My favorite is "Effigy," most recently covered by the late great band Uncle Tupelo, which closes out this SACD at 6-1/2 minutes. There's something Fogerty does with his guitar string that sounds so foreign--"Who we burnin'...who we burnin'...[braaooong!]..in effigy"--that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. It never sounded this way on the redbook!

Hello, everybody:
I'm newbie, and I want to make a question about the "Willy and..."

If I receive an extremely long file with *.mlp extension, how can I to open?

It is possible to open in WaveLab and after, cut every track and convert to a various files with *.wav extension in 24/96 resolution?

If anybody knows how-to, I will appreciate their answres to my question.

Congratulations about the forum, it is the most.

Thanks in advance,
1755isla.

Note: Sorry for the language, I'm not english. :hi:

I play mlp-files by Creative DVD-audio player (Audigy2 Sound Card).
I'm not sure You have it.
As expected You should create DVD-Audio disc from these mlp and cue files.
For exemple by discWelder CHROME.

Minnetonka SurCode MLP Encoder can play it too. Говорят. :)
See above.

Thanks Kokiku for your reply:

I was made various authorings in DVD-Audio with DiscWelder Chrome, but the question is:

I'm only must to introduce in Chrome the long *.mlp file? How to do the neccesaries cuts between tracks in order to make an authoring proccess with an image per track, par example? What rol play the *.cue file in this proccess? 'Til now, I'm only uses the *cue files to make audio-cd, but not DVD-Audio.

If you can, please, would you like to explain me in a simply manner, the proccess, I can to learn too fast.

Thanks Again, Kokiku,
1755isla. :D

Double click on CCR-Willy.And.The.Poor.Boys.SACD.Stereo.to.DVD.Audio.2.0.mlp into the upper right window.
Click on 00:00:00 - 00:35:23 - 00:35:23 - Track1
by the right mouse button - New Track Point.
And copy-paste one time after another from cue-file.
Track 1 - 00:02:47.490
Track 2 - 00:05:47.720
etc.

You can check own created "time-schedule" :) with the help of my picture.

Yes, Kokiku:

I can view the long file (upper window - right).
But, in the lower window, I can see clearly all the tracks with their names and times.

How to make the cuts in the long file? Or, where I must to introduce the *.cue to make these cuts?

Sorry, Kokiku, You must to think I dont have the neccessary level for this operation. But, I think that I'm beging to learn...

If you can, with a little help...

Million of thanks for the fast response and for your effort.
1755isla. :(

Hello, KOKIKU and Olch:
Lot of thanks for your fast information.
But, I'm still being a newbie and I want to make a last question over:

- When in the original long *.mlp file we have a track mixed with the next, how eliminate the 2 seconds pause in Chrome?

- Sorry por spend your time, but I think it's important.

Thanks again in advance,
1755isla. :(

sorry, what is "a track mixed with the next"? :help: time in CCR-Willy.And.The.Poor.Boys.SACD.Stereo.to.DVD.Audio.2.0..cue is't OK? :fear2:

Posted by: 1755isla on 17-09-2006, 12:38
Hello, Olch:
01.- First I make double click over the long file (MLP). Chrome accept this file and ...
02.- When I go to make the track points in Chrome, I enter the time who is in the *.cue in every new track point.
03.- But between Poorboy Shuffle and Fellin' Blue, the player (DENON 1920) makes a little pause and Feelin' blue starts with a little rest of the previous track. The same thing ocurrs in WinDVD.

So, what's wrong?

Thanks in advance for your support,
1755isla. :(

Hello again Olch:

I know the intention when you post in *.mlp format: To find more speed in downloads. But it seems to me a bug in the proccess. To use the "New Track Point" becomes a challenge when we can to manage tracks united, just like happens between "Poorboy Shuffle" and "Feelin' Blue".

But if we can -and we can- to post the result of ripping in individual tracks and in *.wav 24/96 or higher format, we opens the doors to authoring DVD-Video in this resolution. So, DVDLab Pro becomes the perfect solution. With their property "Audio Only Tittle", we can make a perfect DVD-Video (Like in early 2000 makes Chesky Records and Classic Records, before the cut to this format done by the industrie). In this kind of authoring, the cut that Chrome introduce, can't happens. I have made lots of these authoring with tracks like the two mentioned.

If this words can help everybody to find an alternative to *.mlp long file, use their content to make experiments about.

Sorry if molesting. Thanks to all in there,
1755isla. :(

well, *.wav, DVDLab Pro, DVD-Video are good to STEREO, only to stereo-sound :(

yes, in the proccess converting DSD to WAV :(

I edit this WAV now, created new MLP without bug, make PARs 20mb...50mb...100mb...150mb... and can't repair old MLP! :inv1: :fu:

Hello Olch:
I don't know the proccess from DSD to WAV, but I think this must be in analog dominion. You must to extract the analog wave from your SACD player and then you introduces this wave in a record program in your PC at a 24/96 sampling rate or higher.
If this is like I think, don't have any loss in the original signal?

If the proccess is another, do you want to tell me how-to?

Thanks a lot. I have a lot of music and I can to post if you will...

Hello Olch:
Sorry for the slow answering. I've hard work and sometimes I can't to open the PC.
About the music, I have Derek & The Dominos (SACD), Santana (Shaman and Supernatural in DVD-A), Yes (Magnification in DVD-Audio), Yes (DVD Symphonic Yes) The Allman Brothers Band (Live at the Beacon DVD), Talking Heads (Brick in DVD-Audio Vol. 1/2), Eagles (DVD Hell Freezes Over/The Farewell I Tour double sided double DVD), Eagles (Hotel California DVD-Audio), Fleetwood Mac (Rumours DVD-Audio), The Corrs (DVD-Audio), Queen (A Night At The Opera Dual Special Edition 30th Anniversary DVD), Terry Evans (Blues For Thought DVD-Video in Stereo 24/96), Eric Clapton (One More Car... DVD/ 24 Nights DVD/ Guitar Festival Double DVD/ Chronicles DVD)... and many more.

About the Willy, the trouble still there. And not appears in "Santana - Abraxas".
Best sounding copy I've heard ever.

And at last a technical question:

I like the *.wav format for a few of options, but specially for that ones: When we extract the sound in 24/96 or higher, we can open a good editor of sound and cut-off the DC Offset wich appears in the extraction proccess. Do you think about this when you extract the sound from the SACD in analog manner?

Thanks a lot to you and the others formers of this forum.
Sincerelly,

Новый материал - нет!
Те же Original Unequalised Master Mixes engineered by Russ Gary (кстати тоже член форума stevehoffman.tv)! :-)
Просто другой тракт мастеринга - минимальная цепь - Studer A80 (Kevin Gray modified) - EMM Analogue to DSD Converters - Sonoma DSD Recorder!
Если обратишь внимание, то даже между песнями на этом диске нет перерывов - лента как идет так и идет!

Короче - прямее некуда! Поэтому и звук такой чудный!

Эх, ну почему у других руки чешутся EQ ручки покрутить?! :-(

Posted by: yury_usa on 22-11-2006, 21:07
понятно, а то я думал может Willy And The Poorboys DCC Gold прикупить, красиво смотриться :)

Posted by: runo on 22-11-2006, 21:11

Well I use an even easier method than you :-p I simply rip my DVD-Audio ISOs straight to flac with DVD-Audio Explorer 2008!

problem with these rips is often times they don't say what soundcard was used, so I assume it was Creative Audigy2, which is an average card for SACD analog ripping :(

Posted by: vfreak on 21-04-2008, 05:49
Yeah. I wonder if anyone around here has one of those mod boards, which captures the unencrypted 24-bit 96kHz multichannel/stereo PCM before it reaches DAC/re-encrypted digital out, for the players that do that to the DSD.

It would be far better than analog capture.
