It was in October 2006 when EISBRECHER released their second coup with the admittedly successful sophomore release ‘Antikörper’ preceded by the single ‘Vergissmeinnicht’ in August. But after an extensive tour, it was again time for the band around Noel Pix and front man Alexx Wesselsky to enter the studio again and the end result can soon be bought with the third album ‘Sünde’.

The basic recipe, however, has remained the same to combine electronic elements and heavy guitar riffs with the deep throat of Alex, getting manifested on 12 compositions + 1 Remix, starting with the preceding single track ‘Kann denn Liebe Sünde sein?’ that, frankly, starts like Schlager music, before the riffs gonna break through and give the song the typical EISBRECHER sound, followed right behind by ‘Alkohol’ getting started with heavy industrial beats and surely is a candidate for the second single as it’s obviously designed for club use. One track which is anything but funny is ‘Komm Süsser Tod’ ad I find it quite dangerous to glorify something terrible like suicide in a song; lines like "No life, no suffering" speak for themselves, I believe. Back to something more delightful with ‘This is Deutsch’ and I think when Steve Naghavi gets to hear this track, he’ll have a big grin on his face as this song so reminds me of ‘Deutschmaschine’; and like this track, is an apt pot-shot on the German society. However, the start made me wonder if this was a re-issue of the German TRIO song ‘Da Da Da’; exactly the same bleeping synth melody, but the soon emerging stomping beats and the usual vocals make this thought appear ridiculous. The [:SITD:] remix adds nothing new except their trademark beats.

With ‘Herzdieb’ the guys strike a calmer note; wide soothing atmospherics and for once no RAMMSTEIN / UNHEILIG vocals, but actually melodic chant, which doesn’t sound bad at all. In the middle of this more balladry track, the guitars come in, subtly, compared to other tracks, to support Alex during the chorus. Lave, passions are omnipresent themes in the music of EISBRECHER and so it is with ‘1000 Flammen’ where the lyrics burn with passion. The music is aggressive and pushing again; a straight rocking tune, refined with electronic. The closing track to the regular track list turns out to be an almost purely electronic instrumental, named ‘Kuss’ Much melody swirls through the song and many analogue sound gadgets can be heard as well besides some subtly incorporated guitar parts.

One thing is crystal clear: ‘Sünde’ is 100% EISBRECHER and if you didn’t like the music before, you surely won’t be converted with this album either, but for EISBRECHER fans, ‘Sünde’ provides everything they desire: Harsh riffs, partly electronic/organic beat work and probably most important for many: The bodacious vocals of Alex; and with ‘This is Deutsch’ or ‘Alkohol’ some potential club hits are included as will. As for me; I admit there’s a couple of good songs on it, but en bloc it’s not my cup of tea.
