Lavay Smith evokes a sensuous era of jazz queens and sexy pinups, but it's her sultry vocals and saucy lyrics that have made her one of the top swing and jump blues bands in the world. With a voice somewhere between Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington, Smith and her eight-piece band celebrate the swinging big band blues past with obvious enthusiasm and pleasure. Smith's style-heavy shows and dance-friendly tunes, backed by her red-hot band, cook up an instant recipe for dancing and good times.

Lavay Smith, vocalist and bandleader of the Red Hot Skillet Lickers, grew up in Southern California and the Phillipines. She has become known as the Diva of the swing scene, a cross between Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Page, with a singing style influenced by Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Bessie Smith, Little Esther Phillips, and many of the legendary Divas of Jazz and Blues.

Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers maintain a busy schedule of over 250 performances per year, including extensive touring throughout the United States and Canada. They have performed at many prestigious venues including Lincoln Center, the Monterey Jazz Festival, The Chicago Jazz Festival, The Montreal Jazz Festival, the San Francisco Blues Festival, The Toronto Jazz Festival, The Santa Barbara Jazz Festival, and Jazz Aspen Snowmass. When not on the road, Lavay and her band are showcased every Friday at San Francisco’s hippest nightclub, the Cafe du Nord, where they have sold out shows for seven swingin’ years. On Tuesdays, the band can be seen at the world-famous Top of the Mark in the Mark Hopkins Hotel.
