2004 really is the year of Gary Barden. After a period of silence he came to the surface on the (recommended) comeback album of Statetrooper and a (rather disappointing) solo album, featuring self-willed versions of MSG classics.
�Addiction� is not only the third album featuring his vocals in less than six months, it�s also the third studio album from Silver, the band that also features guitarist Michael Voss (Bonfire, Casanova, Demon Drive, Casanova, Mad Max) and keyboard player Don Airey (Deep Purple, Gary Moore, Ozzy Osbourne, Rainbow, Whitesnake). When Silver threw their debut album on the market in 2001, I was quite impressed. It was followed by �Intruder� last year, but although a lot of well-known musicians were invited for that one, it didn�t do that much to me. And I�m sorry to say, but the same can be said of this �crucial� third album. With Marco Minnemann (ex-H-Blockx) on drums, Andreas Broon (ex-Sisters Of Mercy) on bass and Tommy Denander (Radioactive) guesting on guitars, again some great musicians were invited, but again I�m not really impressed. The album starts in a great way with �Never Let Me Go�, but after that the quality of the songs differs so much, that I can�t speak of a coherent unity. Admitted, I like songs like �Why Did You Come Back� and �This Is My Life�, but what�s in between of them is unstable, to say the least. Don�t misunderstand me however, what I hear is OK, but certainly not more than that. Let�s wait and see what the future will bring for this band!
