The full-blown rock opera about a deaf, dumb, and blind boy that launched the band to international superstardom, written almost entirely by Pete Townshend. Hailed as a breakthrough upon its release, its critical standing has diminished somewhat in the ensuing decades because of the occasional pretensions of the concept and because of the insubstantial nature of some of the songs that functioned as little more than devices to advance the rather sketchy plot. Nonetheless, the double album has many excellent songs, including "I'm Free," "Pinball Wizard," "Sensation," "Christmas," "We're Not Gonna Take It," and the dramatic ten-minute instrumental "Underture." Though the album was slightly flawed, Townshend's ability to construct a lengthy conceptual narrative brought new possibilities to rock music. Despite the complexity of the project, he and the Who never lost sight of solid pop melodies, harmonies, and forceful instrumentation, imbuing the material with a suitably powerful grace.

The separation is great, I hear tape hiss, & I don't hear any strange EQ going on. I am curious to know what anyone dislikes about this disc, as I truly can't complain about anything with this one

I think it's simply amazing. The stereo SACD layer is really the only non-muddy sounding Tommy I've ever heard (I've only heard 70's pressing LP, casette release from the 80's, and the remixed CD from a few years ago). The clarity is startling. From overture to 1921, it sounds like the band--especially Pete's voice--is in the room with you!

The SACD liner notes state that the 2 ch is from the original master tape that was found during the reseach for the masters for the multi channel mix. Sounds great to me.

If you only want the redbook CD or the alternate "Eyesight To The Blind" get a nice shape Mobile Fidelity. Otherwise, find you the new DE SACD Hybrid. This has a nicely mastered original Stereo mix and a nice new surround remix. This SACD sounds as good as my wife's original numbered edition UK Track LP.

опят ты так yury_usa. Ето совсем неправилныи повод. Native Win32 interface for Win NT & 2000 is TOTALLY ok, external ASPI needed only while user having problems with his(her) drive !!!

(...and i still dont think that ripped to tracks needs to be converted to image.)

пока первый диск. мне понравилось
из песен больше всего запомнились "Pinball Wizard" и "1921"

Мне больше нравится The Kinks - Arthur (Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire) - на одном диске . А то разведут бодягу на два, типа Jesus Christ, Tommy, Wall, etc. На втором диске - уже клинит.
