Label: Inertia Country: UK Wonderful '98 release on the very sophisticated Inertia label from The Mighty Strinth; following a number of diverse little EP's released around London, this is their long player debut - a collection of very live sounding drum and bass, using proper instruments (Fender, Hammond, sax, guitars and of course live drums), and worthy of being called 'songs' rather than 'choons'. These guys clearly know how to write, arrange and play music in the traditional sense, and they've produced a beautifully understated album here which has few comparisons - perhaps a less jazzy, more cinematic equivalent of Peshay's 'Quartet'. In general, Inertia releases defy easy classification, which instantly wins my favour - dig the label, as the range of material they put out helps put the rest of it into context, and it's quite unique. Tracklisting: 1. Ransom 2. Wait 3. Ghosts 4. Cars 5. Solemnity 6. Monkham Hall 7. Airborne 8. Descent Pt 1 9. Descent Pt 2 10. What Is It? |
