Drummer, Percussionist and Composer Daniel Freedman was born and raised in New York City and grew up in a musical family. In high school he studied with master drummers Max Roach, Billy Higgins and Vernel Fournier and later traveled to study drumming in West Africa, Cuba and the Middle East. Daniel came up in the Smalls scene of the 1990's and during that time was a member of Jason Lindner's acclaimed bigband and as well as Omer Avital's sextet.
Daniel is currently touring the world as a member of Grammy winning singer Angelique Kidjo's band. He has played and recorded with many artists such as Sting, Youssou N'Dour, Dianne Reeves, Omara Portuondo, Tom Harrell, Wynton Marsalis, Meshell Ndegeocello and many more. Daniel is a co-leader of acclaimed band Third World Love with Avishai Cohen, Omer Avital and Yonatan Avishai, and tours frequently with clarinetist and saxophonist Anat Cohen's band. As founder of NY based music house HiHAt.tv, he has written and produced dozens of spots for television and the web. Daniel's new record "Bamako By Bus" was released in April 2012 on the Anzic Record label. It features the core band of Avishai Cohen, Lionel Loueke, Jason Lindner and Meshell N'degeocello as well as Mark Turner, Pedro Martinez, Abraham Rodriguez, Omer Avital, Joshua Levitt and Davi Viera His record "Trio" (2002) with Jason Lindner and Omer Avital and guests Myron Walden and Joshua Levitt on the Fresh Sound label received nine stars in Modern Drummer Magazine and he was featured in the same magazine in the article "Jazz Lions". Daniel was selected as one of five drummers who is changing jazz drumming for the New York Times article "Propelled by Different Drummers".
