Antonio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim - Antonio Carlos Jobim Bossa Nova Latin Jazz Brazilian Jazz World Fusion Latin Folk Biography by Richard S. Ginell It has been said that Antonio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim was the George Gershwin of Brazil, and there is a solid ring of truth in that, for both contributed large bodies of songs to the jazz repertoire, both expanded their reach into the concert hall, and both tend to symbolize their countries in the eyes of the rest of the world. Ginell Urubu is the album that MCA's Jobim probably aspired to be, a total break away from the bossa nova past that is both ambitious and strikingly original. The shock of dissonant strings, percussive and wind sounds from the Brazilian interior greet us on the first track "Bôto," the first of four songs in which a defiant Jobim throws structural complexities at us and sings in Portuguese only. The second four tracks are an even more radical departure; all are classical orchestral pieces, melancholy and even anguished in tone, owing little or nothing to anyone, streaked with imaginative, even avant-garde orchestral touches from Claus Ogerman. Clearly we are not on the Ipanema beach anymore, and although this may be rough going for jazz-minded Jobim fans, the payoff is a glimpse into the depths of Jobim's soul. 1 Bôto (Porpoise) Jobim 6:09 2 Ligia Jobim 4:13 3 Correnteza (The Stream) Bonfa, Jobim 2:42 4 Angela Jobim 2:50 5 Saudade Do Brasil Jobim 7:26 6 Valse Jobim 3:14 7 Arquitetura de Morar (Architecture to Live) Jobim 8:09 8 O Homem (Man) Jobim 2:31 eac-cue-WavPack-rar For Lossy and Lossless you need this .wv file to play and burn Antonio.Carlos.Jobim-1975.Urubu.eac.cue.wv.rar For Lossless only, you will also need to download the .wvc correction file Antonio.Carlos.Jobim-1975.Urubu.eac.wvc.rar Extract both the .wc.rar and .wvc.rar to the same folder for Lossless conversion only |
