Hi-Res Music Takes Top Honors at Surround Music Awards
Hi-Res Music’s ‘Trio’ (Catalog No. HRM 2008), featuring jazz legends Monty Alexander, Herb Ellis and the late, great Ray Brown, was awarded top honors for Best Hi-Res Stereo-Only Program at the recently held First Annual Surround Music Awards.
Trio beat out two other acclaimed Hi-Res Music releases, Leon Russell’s ‘Leon Russell’ (HRM 2013) and Laurindo Almeida and Charlie Byrd’s ‘Brazilian Soul’ (HRM 2009) along with ‘Let It Bleed’, the classic Rolling Stones title recently re-mastered in SACD two-channel, to take home the award.
The Surround Music Awards were held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on December 13, 2002, in conjunction with the Fourth Annual International Surround Conference & Showcase. The awards were presented by audio industry legends Phil Ramone, Al Schmitt, Ed Cherney and Don Was. Legendary producer Elliot Scheiner was presented with the Pioneer Award for his contribution to the early and current use of 5.1 DVD-A surround. Graham Nash and David Crosby treated guests at the awards banquet to a very special performance.
Hi-Res Music, a leading provider of DVD-Audio, specializes in re-issuing all genres of music in two-channel, stereo only, DVD-A. Starting from the original analog master tapes, Hi-Res Music captures all the warmth and space of the original recording as the audio is prepared, using sampling rates of 96,000 times per second, up to 192,000 times per second, for DVD authoring and replication.
