Canadian rockers Into Eternity will probably never sell millions of CDs. Thrash and death metal fans will find the band too melodic, while progressive rock fans will find it all too extreme. That is a pity. The unique blend of brutal thrash, death metal, melodic metal and lots of progressive elements has an extraordinary high level. On the first two records, IE was still searching for its own style, but ever since 2004's 'Buried In Oblivion', the band had found its own way and from that day, all hell broke lose for Into Eternity, gaining a lot of good press reviews all over the world.

The new (fourth) album 'A Scattering Of Ashes', their second for Century Media, is another killer album. Just like the 'Buried In Oblivion', the band managed to make another groundbreaking piece of work. An ultra tight cacophony of sound (every here and then we may compare Into Eternity with the legendary Death) will cut you by the throat, but just as you think it is all too much, a catchy chorus, a groovy riff, or a nice acoustic part is filled in, taking care keeping your attention until the end of the album. Another important part if IE's music are the unique background vocals. They are very high and very catchy, and they make Into Eternity's music very recognisable. However, the most entertaining parts of the album are the instrumental parts. Prog metal in its purest form and I really do not think you will be hearing any better prog music this year! Each song, when listening to the unearthly guitar solos and blasting drums, makes you dazzle on your feet.

The combination of catchy, melodic metal and raging thrash completed with excellent song writing and a perfect sound will certainly gain them a lot of worldwide respect. A tremendous album that deserves to be picked up by a larger public.
