Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Led Zeppelin's initial popularity was based as much on their concerts as their albums, so it's strange that the group's only official live album for many years is such an uninspired, boring affair. Released in conjunction with the pseudodocumentary film of the same name, The Song Remains the Same reproduces the very things that made Zeppelin concerts legendary — lengthy solos, intertwining interplay between Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, and ridiculously long songs ("Dazed and Confused" is nearly an entire half-hour) — but the group's performance is not intoxicating; it's long-winded. As scores of bootlegs prove, Led Zeppelin could produce magic with the same formula, but The Song Remains the Same is excruciatingly dull.

1 Rock and Roll Bonham, Jones, Page, Plant 4:03
2 Celebration Day Jones, Page, Plant 3:49
3 The Song Remains the Same Page, Plant 5:53
4 Rain Song Page, Plant 8:25
5 Dazed and Confused Page 26:52
6 No Quarter Jones, Page, Plant 12:30
7 Stairway to Heaven Page, Plant 10:57
8 Moby Dick Bonham, Jones, Page 12:46
9 Whole Lotta Love Bonham, Dixon, Jones, Page ... 14:25

Pardon the old post bump, but this isn't really a remaster is it? I'm assuming it's the same Barry Diament mastering as the original CD release.

Is there a needledrop of the Classic Records release floating around?

I think that it's just re-issue...may be level boosted(?)

If you are looking for remaster: Topic Link: Led Zeppelin -2007. The Song Remains The Same. 2CD

I have the remaster... I was looking for a better version of the old mixes. The new remaster is brickwalled to the hilt as well.

the 2007 is the worst thing i've ever heard!!!
not only ultra brickwalled, remixed too (moby dick...)!!

I think that the 1997 (?) is the best.

По идее это одно и то же :) все издания должны быть одинаковыми до 2007го года, когда вышел ремастер.
bertox
You got it.
i don't think that 1993 atlantic be remaster, as i say.
...and mine's isn't Atlantic..., is Wea.. :drink: :wc: :haha: :monkey:
bertox
...sorry i don't see Atlantic in any where on CD, but two places:
1- what i say before: 'Barry Diament CD mastering at Atlantic Studios' in the paper.
2- and...: 'distributed by Atlantic Recording Corporation' in the back.

This is my version:http://cgi.ebay.es/LED-ZEPPELIN-The-Song-Remains-The-Same-FIRST-PRESS-2-CD_W0QQitemZ130...temZ130...yZ1049QQcmdZViewItem

strange..., says 'first press CD... released in 1984'...

..just only ten years hole

:dunno:

I have a feeling that yours is identical to what I have. Here are some scans

SPOILER (Discs)

SPOILER (Matrix Numbers)

SPOILER (back cover)

SPOILER (LOGs(check peak level on yours))
bertox
the scans are almost the same... despite of matrix numbers (756790303-2/1 WME , the same of the e-bay guy).

sorry, i can't do level test for now cause' i didn't extract my copies yet.

Maybe SH forum say something...

The "remastered" version has a peak of 100% on the first CD and 97.6 on the second CD (no track by track status in the log files). It's probably just level boosted as noted before.
