Using the departure of John Lawton and Lee Kerslake as the catalyst, Uriah Heep discarded the outmoded style of Fallen Angel for the contemporary sound of Conquest. Uriah Heep's 13th album would be their last with keyboardist/guitarist Ken Hensley and their first with singer John Sloman; drummer Chris Slade also entered the lineup. Unsurprisingly, there was at this point not much continuity with the music with which Uriah Heep had first risen to fame. Here the band seemed torn as to whether to go more toward the AOR mainstream or not, but in any case the songs weren't strong enough to merit investigation, and done no favors by Sloman...
