James Christian is best known as the front man of HOUSE OF LORDS. Before that, he fronted a few other bands and in 1994 he made his presence felt as a solo artist, by releasing his first ever solo album, which was recently re-released with the addition of no less than 6 bonus tracks. It was a fine album featuring some high profile collaborations with such notable writers as Mark Baker, Bruce Gowdy, Bob Marlette, Mike Slamer, Steve DeMarchi & Freddy Curci. HOUSE OF LORDS released a very enjoyable album, a wee while ago, entitled "The power and the Myth" with Christian firmly at the helm, unlike co-founder Gregg Guiffria who opted out early in the project. After that Christian decided to put out another solo record in order to re-establish his status as a solo artist. Some excellent tracks can be found in his sophomore effort, called, "Meet The Man". Some songs feature contributions from his HOUSE OF LORDS band mates Chuck Wright and Lanny Cordola like the excellent "After The Love Has Gone" and "Hold Back The Night" which bear subtle similarities to the member’s normal band. Stan Bush has credit for the amazing "Strong Enough" one of the many highlights of this album and, Judith Randall has some contributions as well. The album flows like water in a river, effortlessly, gracefully, and beautifully. Songs like "Know you in the dark" "Meet the man" and "Circle of Tears" will have you begging for more. The production is satisfactory although perhaps a bit retro and Mr Christian sounds a bit more motivated than he did on certain songs on the "Power and the Myth". All in all a release that will not disappoint any of the fans of melodic rock / AOR. Let me re-phrase this. One of the better releases of this year, but then again, the competition is quite fierce. Remarkable nonetheless. |
