Review :
On Thorns I Lay are the absolute melancholic – aggressive metal representatives that always get the full marks for their music creativity and character. Although they exist for more than a decade they successfully manage to release different but equally remarkable albums.

Though it’s not a big change. Their music is still atmospheric, but this time it’s heavier. They have also changed the female singer with the new one being more pretty and with a vastly different voice. The voice of the new singer is less operatic and more atmospheric. I really like the new direction even if the songs are not that strong as in "Crystal Tears". Good songs nevertheless but they lack the ability to catch your attention and never let it go until the end of the album. Of course there are a couple of exception, but I have the feeling that their new album is not as strong as "Crystal Tears". But it’s a good one, better than most albums in the scene that are out these days. It establishes even further their reputation as one of the best bands in atmospheric metal. It is very well produced and even if the songs are not as in "Crystal Tears" they are still good. Even more, being more heavy they create a more personal style and they are adding more originality to their music. |
