Norway's remarkable Rune Grammofon label seems to have at its disposal a whole raft of maverick producers that seem prolific and capabale beyond their years. Deathprod's Helge Sten is one such character, while Espen Sommer Eide (sometimes known as Alog, sometimes as Phonophani) is another master-producer let loose with his often improvised electronic soundscaping. Together with Dar-Are Haugan, Espen's debut work as Alog dates back to '99 and finds itself positioned perfectly at the crossroads where improvisation, electronics and acoustic experimentation (some might even say post-rock) decided to collide at the end of the last millenium. "Red shift Swing" is a prime example of what makes Rune Grammofon such a compelling label - beyond the mouthwatering packaging and other-worldly qualities you just can't put your finger on, it's a label that often surprises with just how accessable and supremely emotional it can be. Alog's work radiates warmth and beauty with equal measure - another sublime release for a label that can seemingly do no wrong.
