"Thick guitar tones, unbelievable playing and aggressive metal/prog/melodic tunes. That's the best way for me to describe Outworld's latest release. Being a huge fan of Rusty, this is definitely his best to date. The guitar playing is intricate, creative and beyond comprehension at times while at the same time incorporating unique and interesting phrasing. In fact, all of the players really shine on this CD. The thing that stands out the most however, is the maturity of the song structures. Really cool riffs, melodic hooks and a great mix have made this one of my favorite releases this year."
-John Petrucci, Dream Theater
First and foremost the first release by Prog-rockers Outworld shows the many talents of the band as they rise to the occasion of their debut release. But disruption in the Outworld camp and emphasis on dedication has to be a focus and with their debut release Kelly Sundown Carpenter has left camp to work on other endeavors. Brazil’s Carlos Zema has stepped into the spotlight and has taken over with deep-hearted desire and dedication, besides having great pipes.
The debut was record with Kelly but looking to the future with Zema. Not taking anything away from Kelly the Outworld release is simply put amazing. Kelly totally meshes with keyboardist Bobby Williamson making a match made in heaven and when Cooley unleashes the seven-string like a machine gunner with rapid fire, you have ecstasy. You have to check out the song "Outworld" giving a riveting vibe of Dream Theater with an even more classical musical background.
Once again Williamson kicking it up a notch making past memories of Keith Emerson -- just that a memory. Cooley’s guitar slices threw notes that are not even in the books which will put him on a pedestal of stardom. Outworld is a remarkable band of talented musicians and if they stay one step ahead with knowledge I can’t see anyone stopping them. This is a history making release as you will hear some of the most revolutionary guitar playing setting new standards as a guitar god. The tapping and chicken picking by Cooley will mesmerize your senses putting you in a trance to be awakened in years to come.
Throughout the CD, you can feel visions of Dream Theater with more emphasis on the soon to be legendary guitar style by Cooley. Song after song is overwhelming with emotion and success will be in Outworld’s hands with such tunes as "City of the Dead," "The Never" and "The Grey Tide." Outworld is recommended for guitar enthusiasts, progressive fans and fans of Dream Theater.
