You shouldn't be strangers to Freedom Call by now, you should know that if you want some over the top, happy power metal then this is the best place to come. With that in mind, you pretty much know what you are going to get by listening to this album.
Kicking things off, after yet another pointless two minute introduction track, is the obligatory fast paced power metal anthem we usually get to start albums off. Fast guitar, fast double bass drumming and the usual Iron Maiden/Helloween style sing along bits that sometimes just sound like they have been put there as a way to include an audience at a live show then to enhance the actual music in any significant way. The lyrics of the song and pretty much whole album are as cringe worthy as they have ever been before, this time including some children that are so innocent, sounds awful doesn't it, but I find myself enjoying this still. The good feelings that emanate from this clearly over the top music really did make me smile, so if you are the sort of person that can understand that maybe the lyrics and sound shouldn't be taken as such a serious statement and can embrace the happy sound then you should find no problem in having a good time listening to this.
The music is pretty much totally un-original and this time around the band sound more like Helloween then I have ever recognised before. This doesn't make it not enjoyable though, "Queen Of My World" is a great track and also the ballad "Words Of Endeavour" is a change from the typical power metal formula. There are still odd bits in places that do shine with something a bit different. I will draw your attention to "Magic Moments" as this song sounds quite unique to anything I have heard from a metal band before, Chris Bay adopts an old fashioned kind of singing and accompanied by a choir of backing singers creates something quite original that caught my attention and have found myself listening to quite a few times since hearing it the first time.
This album is pretty much everything you would expect before listening to it, the album and is as people would call 'cheesy' and overly bombastic as well as being pretty much totally unoriginal but you know I still really like it. Sometimes there is more then just originality and production quality and all the other variables we all take into consideration while deciding how much we like an album - this cheerful album puts a smile on my face and makes me feel happy, and I am sure it will do most of you if you allow it to - that is the most important thing with this type of music.
