Cesar Franck (1822 - 1890)
Works for Voice and Organ, Vol.1
Performers:
Maitrise du Conservatoire Popularie de Musique de Geneve
Solistes de Lyon
A relatively unknown side of Franck is explored in this series devoted to offertories for voice, various organ pieces, motets and harmonizations of fauxbourdons of Gregorian melodies which constituted the nuts and bolts of his daily chores as chapel master and organist, especially through the 1850s. Extensive research through libraries and archives was necessary and the notes are extensive, including the place of this oeuvre in the ongoing Gregorian Restoration, on performance practice and Franck’s organs.
