Singer-songwriter Gram Parsons, the architect of country-rock and patron saint of American roots music-"alt" and otherwise-died in 1973 at age 26, but the enormity of his influence remains constant. Florida-born and Georgia-bred, Parsons began playing at age 14 and launched his first group, the International Submarine Band, in NYC in the late ‘60s. Transplanted to L.A., he joined the Byrds, shaping their landmark album Sweetheart Of The Rodeo, and made further musical history with the Flying Burrito Brothers. After discovering Emmylou Harris playing in a D.C. bar, he went on to record two now-legendary solo LPs, GP and Grievous Angel, that spotlight the peerless harmony of their divergent voices, hers angelic and pure, his ragged and scorched by his demons. Rhino’s historic set presents those two soulful albums remastered and expanded, plus a third disc of precious alternate takes from those recordings.

Эта группа участвовала в записи первого сольного альбома Парсонса "GР", ознаменовавшего возвращение к той форме, которую он продемонстрировал в первом альбоме The Flying Burrito Brothers. Вскоре после завершения работы над "Grievous Angel", мучимый личными проблемами, связанными с разводом с женой, Парсонс решил отдохнуть с друзьями в своем самом любимом уголке зем¬ного шара - в калифорнийском заповеднике Джошуа Три. На второй же день приезда, после сильной затяжной попойки, он ушел в свой номер и вколол себе смертельную дозу морфина. Когда его нашли приятели, тело его уже было холодным. Все их попытки вернуть двадцатишестилетнего музыканта к жизни оказались напрасными. Инцидент приобрел скандальную окраску, после того как гастрольный менеджер Парсонса выкрал его тело, привез из Лос-Анджелеса обратно в Джошуа Три и сжег в соответствии с волей покойного.
И хотя при жизни Грэм Парсонс не был избалован успехом, после его смерти за ним прочно закрепилась репутация одного из пионеров кантри-рока, чье творчество повлияло на столь разных музыкантов, как The Eagles, Элвис Костелло и Бек.
