Review by Greg Prato

The pressure was on Kiss for their fifth release, and the band knew it. Their breakthrough, Alive!, was going to be hard to top, so instead of trying to recreate a concert setting in the studio, they went the opposite route. Destroyer is one of Kiss' most experimental studio albums, but also one of their strongest and most interesting. Alice Cooper/Pink Floyd producer Bob Ezrin was on hand, and he strongly encouraged the band to experiment -- there's extensive use of sound effects (the album's untitled closing track), the appearance of a boy's choir ("Great Expectations"), and an orchestra-laden, heartfelt ballad ("Beth"). But there's plenty of Kiss' heavy thunder rock to go around, such as the demonic "God of Thunder" and the sing-along anthems "Flaming Youth," "Shout It Out Loud," "King of the Night Time World," and "Detroit Rock City" (the latter a tale of a doomed concert-goer, complete with violent car-crash sound effects). But it was the aforementioned Peter Criss ballad, "Beth," that made Destroyer such a success; the song was a surprise Top Ten hit (it was originally released as a B-side to "Detroit Rock City"). Also included is a song that Nirvana would later cover ("Do You Love Me?"), as well as an ode to the pleasures of S&M, "Sweet Pain." Destroyer also marked the first time that a comic-book illustration of the band appeared on the cover, confirming that the band was transforming from hard rockers to superheroes.

Может, всё-таки проще RAR'ом открыть - он у всех есть. Там внутри и куй, и лог, и картинки

I am sorry I do not know what this conversation is about but:

JUST remove the *.ape extension and you get the RAR file with everything inside.

The conversation is exactly about you've guess :) piraki can't find cue.

I prefer easiest way, without renaming - right-click on the release and select "Open with..." then select "WinRAR archiver".

*.ape extention should not be changed 'cos it's useful for direct playing with foobar. Opening rar archives with foobar leads to tremendous memory usage by foobar - it's archive plugin first unpacks archives into memory. Direct playing of cue-tagged *.rar.ape goes like playing of regular music files, without memory overhead.

OK. Thanks

You method for decompressing the RAR is obviously faster

Anyway, the "extension change" is fully revertible. One can remove to decompress and then add again add *.ape and the file is exactly the same.

Be careful with Wavpack files with cue embedded:

Yes, this misfunction of current ImgBurn version have been discussed at this forum. The nature is ImgBurn can't handle embedded cue when other tags are present - particulary embedded album art (since foobar supports this feature embedded album art became a part of current standard for releases). Hope ImgBurn author will fix this bug in nearest version of ImgBurn.

I never use complete decompression of double-standard directly playable releases (*.rar.ape or *.zip.ape or *.iso.wv) Just extract cue, change "FILE" statement in it to the release filename:

CODE
FILE "Kiss -1976- Destroyer [Japanese](Keykey).rar.ape" WAVE

and such external cue goes fine with Burrrn or any other program whether or not embedded cue support implemented (ape support still required of course). Release file remains untouched. Sharing do not stops. And no additional space on hdd required.
