Review
Are You Experienced is the debut album by Jimi Hendrix Experience. Released in 1967, it was the first LP on the new Track Records label. The album highlighted Jimi Hendrix's R&B based, psychedelic, feedback-laden electric guitar playing, with an imaginative song writing style and launched him as a major new International star and later fame in the USA and Canada.

The album is also known as Are You Experienced?, which Barclay Records of France used for their original 1967 release and subsequent re-releases. Although all other covers of the album list the title without the question mark. Also, some tracklists of the album display the title track with a question mark. [1]

After being taken under Chas Chandler's wing and arriving in England in September 1966 , they formed The Jimi Hendrix Experience with Mitch Mitchell on drums and Noel Redding on bass. The group signed with Track Records, newly formed by The Who's managers Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp. However the group's debut single appeared on Polydor Records, their distributor, because Track was not fully operational. The group released three classic Top 10 hit UK singles produced by Chas Chandler : "Hey Joe"/"Stone Free" (December 1966), "Purple Haze"/"51st Anniversary" (March 1967, the 1st release by the new Track Records label, on a special white label) and "The Wind Cries Mary"/"Highway Chile" (May 1967). The overdubs for Purple Haze were Jimi's first session at the recently opened Olympic studios with the engineer Eddie Kramer, although they continued to record tracks with engineer Dave Siddle at De Lane Lea studios, for a while. During the making of these singles, The Jimi Hendrix Experience also cut the tracks that became their debut album, which Chas Chandler also produced with the Olympic Studios Engineer Eddie Kramer (some tracks were recorded with engineers Dave Siddle at De Lane Lea & Mike Ross at CBS studios). Released in England that May without the three singles - as was the custom in the UK at that time - Are You Experienced and The Jimi Hendrix Experience quickly became a sensation all across (non communist bloc) Europe, with the album reaching #2 in the UK, behind The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Судя по реакции accuraterip в логе, этот диск может быть клоном ремастера от Alan Douglas Eddie Kramer.. У меня, к сожалению, нет оригинала при себе, чтобы проверить наверняка :drag:

Yes, for all Hendrix SHM's the japanese sound wizards used the new remasters by Eddie Kramer (who also been the recording engineer) and George Marino. :punk:
Generally SHM-Disc show IMO the same sonical tendency as XRCD's and also SACD's. They sound less "harsh" and "sharp" without softening the music. an effect which is typical for high resolution digital audio. :music:
Your opinions are more than welcome!!

I've compared "Foxey Lady" to 2 1997 MCA Discs (diferent color), and to AYE(more) CD. So far Japanese SHM-CD sounds best for me :music:
I've yet to compare with vinyl-rip :)

Take a look:

Japanese SHM

MCA 1997 v1 - high peaks are bit soft and not as defined as SHM-CD

MCA 1997 v2 - same, but with some variations

AYE and More CD - noise reduction(?) :(

Despite of these images, i think that the ears are the kings of decisions....

Now, your neeldrop is the winner to me...it sounds great!!

I have the 'orange' MCA cd too...

Почитал в сети на счет SHM-CD....вся фишка в том, что диски печатаются на "супер-новом, супер-качественном материале"...ИМХО при рипаньи все эти достоинства исчезают

Thought the same first, but I have to disagree, cause you have the (theoretical) advantages also during the rip... If you compared the regular cd issue with the shm, you will notice the differnce.

I think that these SHMs uses the same Experience Hendrix mastering..like the MCAs... :ninja:

YURY_USA:
Do you have the WG 1st press of this??

don't know...but i have the Electric Ladyland and Band of Gypsys 1st Press West Germany polydors...and sounds good compared to tha compressed EH series..

the US Reprise sounds better?? ...i've seen in somewhere that the Axis Bold As Love Reprise sounds more 'flat' and with the original mix than the Polydors...which is good thing.:D

btw..upload some of these, Reprise or Polydor either..please..
or two maybe.. :hi:
yury_usa
I never compared these two, but I read that some people prefer US Reprise :drag:

Эти достоинства никакого отношения к звуку не имеют. Более качественный материал может гарантировать больший срок службы диска, но никак не лучшее качество его звучания.

угу, надо бы эти SHM диски перенести в рок
