Sonig Tchakerian - solo violin

Biography from artist's website:
She started violin playing very young with her father. At the age of sixteen she graduated "cum laude" at the Venice Conservatory, with Giovanni Guglielmo. She attended the master classes of Franco Gulli in Siena and Nathan Milstein in Zürich; furthermore she studied with Salvatore Accardo at the "Stauffer" Academy in Cremona.
In 1980 she was awarded at the "Paganini" competition in Genoa and in 1988 at the A.R.D. competition in München, where she had previously obtained the "Special Public Acknowledgment". She has been performing as soloist with important orchestras like "Bayerische Rundfunk", "Alessandro Scarlatti", "I Solisti Veneti", "S.Carlo" of Naples and "Arena" of Verona, "G: Verdi" Symphony Orchestra in Milan, cooperating with famous conductors such as Bellugi, Chailly, Gatti, Janigro, Melles, Oren, Scimone, Tchakarov.
Her recording of Paganini's 24 Caprices (Arts) has been received enthusiastically by the press "... her ricochet control in the opening E major Caprice is remarkable, and she possesses an alluring cantabile which works wonders in no.4. When the notes start flying (nos. 5, 10, 13 and 16) she shows admirable poise and command ..." (Julian Haylock, The Strad); "A violinist of great personality, she reveals her outstanding technical skills in that demanding recording ..." (Carlo Bellora, Musica); "Her performance is delightful thanks to her skill in bringing out the melodic beauty of many Caprices, the ironic and warm nature of others, and the formal complexity. A great violinist who adds soul to a virtuoso performance" (Giorgio Vitali, Famiglia Cristiana)
She has recorded the complete Haydn violin concertos as both conductor and violinist with the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto for the German label Arts.Other releases include Ravel's complete works for violin and piano (with Giovanni Battista Rigon) and a live recording of Saint-Saëns' Rondo Capriccioso and Vieuxtemps' 5th Concerto, published in 2001 as a supplement of Audiophile Sound.
She was invited by Salvatore Accardo to participate to the "Settimane Musicali Internazionali" of Naples. She often plays chamber music with famous artists like Accardo, Brunello, Canino, Christ, Dalberto, Filippini, Giuranna, Kabaivanska, Mintz, Thiollier,Petracchi. She has been the violinist of the "Trio Italiano", who won the Gui international competiton, for about fifteen years. During this period she recorded the opera omnia of Beethoven, Schumann and Schubert.
She has recorded many times for Italian, French and German broadcasting companies and televisions.

She plays a beautiful violin by Ianuarius Gagliano, made in Naples in 1760.
The famous Italian musicologist Lorenzo Arruga wrote: "...Sonig Tchakerian has the fascinating charm of who has aggressiveness in the name of that Great Music which she interprets."

Description at Arts Music website

The sounds can be of diamond sharpness or lively roughness when they are the result of effort exceeding available strength, the evidence of irreplaceable expressiveness. It is a story based on thoughts, deep emotions, striding gestures, which enrich the long challenge of silence, flattering, relentless, eternal; the challenge of sound, and of the long question. With every note, the prize-winner at the Paganini-Competition in Genoa and the ARD-Competition in Munich, Sonig Tchakerian, plays naturally and without affectation, because it is her second nature. Her technique is marked by her strong arm, by her hardly tamed restlessness. As is very rare today, the aura of greatness governs. Paganini, Sonig and ourselves, filled by the beauty and amazement, mindful of the meaning of our being, we expect an answer from eternity.

The Strad
"Admirable pose and command ... An unusually wide-ranging and full-bodied recording"

Musica
"A violonist with instinctive musicality, a vibrato of great beauty, overall great quality and an interpretation with extreme charisma"

Musica (I)
"Sonig Tchakerian ... makes her way through the Caprices impressively"
