"We are Vatican Analog. We play and book shows for both music & art. We release silly records for silly people [...] this CD is 1 euro. Don't pay more". Tilburg is by now the fifth biggest city of The Netherlands (I believe), so it has lots of artists and when they decide to be together and make something happen together they have my warm enthusiasm. On this sampler we come across names that are common places in Vital Weekly, such as Jos Smolders, Staplerfahrer, Vincent Koreman, THU20 (not strictly a band from Tilburg, mind you), DMDN & The Haters (with a recording from 1987) but also names that are entirely new to me such as Neurobit, The Truth Is In The Eyes Of The Deer, Meldy Peaches, Jimmy Hawthorne, Autonon, Bas Verbeek. This 1 euro CD has sixteen bands and projects (some of these may contain the same names actually, but in different combinations). The musical range of the boys (no girls can be seen from this end of the telescope) is wide apart. There is breakcore, old school industrial, current day laptop microsound, ambient drones and wacked out techno. Maybe a too mixed bag to be fully enjoyed as one thing, but perhaps if you are open minded enough. Otherwise pick your favorites and start throwing a party with them. An amazing collection of music from one city, where just a lot of very interesting things are happening. This is your ticket inside. This is just well spend 1 euro. (Frans de Waard, vitalweekly.net)
Vatican Analog. A collective of Dutch artists. Musicians, writers, painters, thinkers and anti-musicians. Tilburg is our hometown. It’s not a very pretty town, but open for oppertunities. Loads of students here, college kids and blue collar workerbees. The both reflect in VA. Hands on experience, not only talking but also doing the walking and study, both life itself and art in praticular. We are not a label, we are not a clubnight, but we do produce output en we do put nights together. CA is like a big umbrella shielding us from the cold rain of the mainstream and at the same time offering us a place to develop new things. Outward bound. You know... for kids!
On this space at MySpace we try to give you up to date information and give your ears an idea how the VA crew sounds like and looks like. Click on to the artists profiles to get way more actual sounds and information. I mean, we like to keep up this umbrella, but our attention more goes to the actual arts then this Myspace, to be honest.
If you’re going on tour, feel free to send a message. If we dig what you do, chances are we can easily set something up here for you or point you in the right direction. If you like one of our artists, click on and get in touch! Same goes for those who hate our artists. We’ve also got a website up, www.vatican-analog.com. But also for that; most of the time it’s a problem to keep that up to date.
We work together with other artists in Tilburg, others in Holland and abroad as well. The main focus of our evenings is to bring ard and experimental or antimusic togehter. That sometimes gets us booo’d, but hey: you win some, you lose some. We’re open for input, but don’t expect us to direct you, manage you or your work or thinking for you anyhow. That’s the old way, we are the new. (myspace.com)
