Review Hand-picked by Van Halen to open for them on a leg of their 1991-1992 U.S. tour, Australia's Baby Animals released two killer albums from 1991 to 1993, before their record label imploded and tied the band up in legal hassles for several years. This one, their self-titled debut album, sounds polished and raw at the same time. Vocalist/guitarist Suze DeMarchi is one of the greatest female rock vocalists of her generation. This record is all killer, no filler. Sample some of the tracks on Amazon.com if you don't believe me. Their fan base following in the Land Down Under was phenomenal, winning them countless awards and stellar record sales. In their short recording career they produced only this debut CD and a follow-up called "Shaved and Dangerous". There are/were even Baby Animals tribute bands in Australia! C'mon, now! Name ANY other band who achieved such a fanatical following to merit TRIBUTE BANDS after putting out only 2 records! Are you starting to get the picture? It has been over 10 years since this record came out (and coming up on 10 years since "Shaved and Dangerous" was released) and I still listen to the Baby Animals regularly. DeMarchi released a solo disc in 1999 called "Telelove". Buy that one, too. The rest of the world needs to realize that Australia is producing some GREAT rock and roll bands!
