The blues have been imported into Poland by multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and festival producer Irek Dudek (born Ireneusz Dudek). His group, the Silesian Blues Band, featuring Apostolis "Lakis" Antymos, Josef Skrzek, and Jerzy Piotrowski, was one of Poland's top blues-rock bands of the 1970s. Although he's continued to record as a soloist, releasing No. 1 in 1985 and A New Vision of Blues in 1994, Dudek has made his most enduring mark as producer of the Rawa Blues Festival. Since 1992, the event has featured a mix of American artists, including Koko Taylor, Junior Wells, Carey Bell, Luther Allison, Canned Heat, C.J. Chenier, Big Bill Morganfeld, and Alvin Youngblood Hart, and Polish blues acts like Schau Pau, Cree, Proud Mary, the Riders, and Dudek's band, Shakin' Dudi. ~by Craig Harris, AMG

Born in 1951 in Katowice. One of the greatest blues people in . In the 60s he was one of the creators of phenomenon called Silesian blues. In the 70s a leader of well known bands - Apokalipsa and Irjan, with works based on blues traditions. In 1981 he organized 1st Rawa Blues Festival. The event very quickly became the most important blues festival in . Among the stars who participated in the Festival were Luther Allison, Koko Taylor, Junior Wells, Magic Slim, Carey Bell, Dave Kelly, Kim Simmonds, Tony McPhee, the Bluesband, Stan Webb's Chicken Shack and James Blood Ulmer with Vernon Reid.
During 3rd edition of Rawa Blues Festival (1983) Dudek introduced Sesja Bluesowa (Blues Session), blues big band playing with breaks till this day and being the only such a band in Europe. Later, he became a leader of the best rock'n'roll formation in history of Polish rock, Shakin' Dudi. The 90s was the time of realization his own music vision, coming straight from Mississippi Delta - symphonic blues. Together with his symphonic-blues orchestra, he gave concerts in , , and. Took part in festivals: Insbruck Blues Night, Heilbronn Jazz & Blues Fest, Groningen Rhythm & Blues Night or Freiburg Blues Monday. He was the first Polish and one of few Europeans who played in legendary "Subway" club in Cologne. The show was screened plenty times by WDR and ZDF (German TV satellite channels) and published on disc as "Irek Dudek Symphonic Blues" by Ruf Records.
On Rawa Blues 2002 we heard Dudek as a leader of big band with the biggest lineup so far, promoting "Plyta roku", mixing swing convention with rhythm'n'blues and punk. And Irek Dudek Big Band performance on 25. jubilee edition of Rawa Blues in 2005 confirmed the truth that in artistic anxiety, connected with sources and traditions of blues, boogie, jazz and rock’n’roll, still can be found a material from which comes music going against the stream of trends and fashions popularized by media. Irek Dudek again confirmed his talent, ingenuity and great feeling for blues. He presented the show in completely New-Orleans-style. Great blues feast in masterful performance, full of humour, rhythm, timbres, verve and expressiveness. (Na Przelaj, 1983)

The concert hall was bursting at the seams, but it was worth 'supporting the wall' for 1,5 hour, just to participate in great blues show, given to us by Dudek and friends. To gather such excellent musicians, a great respect and honor in the business is needed. Irek did it. He was great as a band leader, able to draw all musicians into great entertainment. Great work of wind instruments section of Big Bronek, and Jan Błędowski on violin and Krzysztof Głuch on piano showed off daring solos. And of course "Dudi" also pulled his weight, playing harmonica and violin. (Gazeta Poznanska, 1985)

His agenda consisted of new and former works arranged as a suite. Careful arrangements, successful idea to use chamber orchestra, skillfully laid out soloists parts, and finally virtues of Dudek - multinstrumentalist, inflicted that this was one of the best festival moments, appreciated by the audience with ovation, which was devoid of courtesy. Sensation of Blues Days in Roth was Irek Dudek Symphonic Blues performance. He fascinated with his visionary project of blues band, supplemented with complete string orchestra, creating symbiosis between blues music and Polish melancholy. Irek Dudek performed the best show from among Polish stars. This time Rawa Blues director gave us show with acoustic set. Minor melodies fit great with Dusza's lyrics. "House of the Rising Sun" (played so piercingly) and "Gloria" (sang by all audience) sounded beautifully. (Gazeta Wyborcza, 2003)
Almost every year Irek Dudek's performance is the event of the Festival. (...) At least once a month I'm in Spodek on the concert, but none of them has such a climate, like annual blues holiday - Rawa Blues. For many years I thought about the secret of Irek Dudek great performances during the Festival. No matter if it's Symphonic Blues or Shakin’ Dudi, the temperature is always high (...)
