Rockin' 80's is a three-disc trip through the vaults of the Sony Music family. More specifically, as the title indicates, the set is '80s rock-oriented. There is a wide range of rock styles on offer here -- everything from the power pop punch of the Romantics' "What I Like About You," to the pop-rock of Scandal's "The Warrior," to the new wave of the Psychedelic Furs' "Pretty in Pink," to the hair metal glitter of Britny Fox's "Girlschool." Not to mention the funky metal of Living Colour ("Cult of Personality"), the blues-rock of the Fabulous Thunderbirds ("Tuff Enuff"), and the roots rock of Dave Edmunds ("Me and the Boys"). The compilers of the disc had a lot of different styles to choose from, and it would have been a difficult task to make sense out of it all. So they decided to forget about it and just throw all the songs into a hat and randomly assemble a track listing. This bewildering sequence of tracks makes the discs hard to listen to, which is unfortunate because there is a wealth of music here: some forgotten classics, some guilty pleasures, and some just plain good rock music wasted by bad sequencing. What a shame.
