Pitch Shifter, who formed in 1989, became Godflesh's bastard child. They played a very bleak style similar to them, yet created their own identity with their use of super-down tuned guitars and distorted bass lines over dub-style drums. Their 1991 release "Industrial" pretty much lived up to its album title name, presenting a style hugely revolved around industrial influences rather than metal influences. Granted Pitch Shifter drew influences from the likes of Godflesh, Big Black, Head of David and so on, they also show influences surprisingly reaching the realms of metal. It's not quite accurate where they grab their metal influences from, but the vocal style, being a grunt and growl style, has been borrowed from death metal and the slow, detuned riffs has hints of doom metal. |
