Valters and Kaža, sometimes spelt Walters and Kazha is a Latvian duo who represented their homeland in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest. The slow ballad-like song, "The War Is Not Over", finished in 5th place despite having a considerably large lead at some point during the voting. Their full names are Valters Fridenbergs and Karlis Bumeisters. In the semi-final, which was held two days before the final, Valters and Kaža qualified as tenth. Unfortunately, Valters lost his voice at the after-party. This was so bad that at the dress rehearsal Valters did not sing during the entire song. Fortunately he was able to sing at the live final, although Valters and Kaža sang one of the final parts one octave lower than they should. One could clearly see that Valters was relieved that it worked out. Walters & Kazha went Nr. 5 at International Eurovision Song Contest 2005. Vocalists of the teenage group "Putnu balle" Walter & Kazha met 16 years ago when at the age of two they were accepted to the children pop group "Dzeguzite". It was pop band where both achieved their first success by performing songs written by the maestro Raimonds Pauls – most popular Latvian composer so far. In 1996 they’ve got Annual Musical Award for the album of "Milky Way" gained the prestige title of the Best selling children album. Together with "Dzeguzite" Kazha and Walters have travelled to 22 countries and have also performed at the most prestigious concert hall of the world- "Madisson Square Garden" in New York. The first album of "Putnu Balle" was released on April 28, 2005 by MicRec PM label and released in Latvia and Lithuania. Got golden status in Latvia. "The War Is Not Over" was the Latvian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005, performed in English by Walters & Kazha. The song is a gentle ballad with somewhat elliptical lyrics. The duo sing that "The war is not over, everyone knows it/It's just a reason to make us believe/That someone's the loser, someone's the winner", which can be interpreted as a call to their listeners not to believe what official sources say. Early recordings featured the lyrics "That someone is loser, that someone is winner". These were replaced by the above line in deference to English grammar. The duo performed the song seated on stools with acoustic guitars. The final chorus, however, was performed standing up and using sign language to accompany the lyrics. As Latvia had not qualified for the final at the 2004 Contest, the song was performed in the semi-final. Here, it was performed fifth, following Moldova's Zdob şi Zdub with "Boonika bate doba" and preceding Monaco's Lise Darly with "Tout de moi". At the close of voting, it had received 85 points, placing 10th in a field of 25 and thus qualifying for the final (the top ten did so). In the final, the song was performed twenty-third, following Switzerland's Vanilla Ninja with "Cool Vibes" and preceding France's Ortal with "Chacun pense à soi". At the close of voting, it had received 153 points, placing 5th in a field of 24, thus qualifying Latvia for the final at their next Contest appearance.
