A double-CD set taken from the 1991 Le Nuvole tour, this recording finds De André in sparkling form backed by a crack band of talented multi-instrumentalists. The first CD is devoted to new songs and legendary De André classics in Italian, including warm, memorable renditions of "La Canzone del Amore Perduto" and "La Canzone di Marinella", as well as the Georges Brassens' homage "Il Gorilla. The second CD, on the other hand, is made entirely of songs in dialect, from the late and more experimental phase of the songwriter's career, and it showcases the band's superb musicianship. A thoroughly enjoyable album, 1991 Concerti arguably doubles as a better introduction to the many facets of this essential Italian artist than any of his compilations.
