Label: Talkin'Loud Country: UK This challenging second album from former hardcore/trip-hop singer Nicolette takes the boundary-crossing spirit of last year's "No Government" single and runs with it. From abrasive techno to ambient experiments to jazzy jungle and old-fashioned soul, this record has it all. The singer conveys a maverick, intensely personal political vision through unconventional melodies and off-kilter crooning. With production work from Plaid, Dego, Felix and Alec Empire, the grooves are firing on all cylinders. The lyrics sometimes stray into hippy-dippy territory, but only an ill-advised cover of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" and the aptly titled, Empire-produced "Nightmare" are truly worthless.
