1 November 2010 UB40 today marked the 30th anniversary of their seminal debut Signing Off with the release of a remastered double CD and bonus DVD edition of the album.
Signing Off launched the career of the Birmingham-based band who went on to become one of the most successful reggae acts of all time. Considered by critics to be a landmark musical achievement, the album infused infectious reggae and dub grooves with acute commentary on wide-ranging social and political issues and in doing so appealed to a huge variety of music fans. It achieved platinum status after a 71-week stay in the charts, reaching a peak placing of #2, and yielded the hits Food for Thought and King along with classic tracks such as the anti-Thatcher diatribe Madam Medusa and vitriolic Little by Little.
The expanded version of Signing Off also includes the non-album singles that followed it- My Way of Thinking, The Earth Dies Screaming and Dream A Lie- together with various 12" and live recordings, while the bonus DVD contains videos and rare performance footage of UB40, such as the 'Rock Goes To College' set from 1981. Graduate Music, which is administered by the Kassner Music Group, co-publishes all the original songs contained in the release.
To celebrate the anniversary further, the band is currently performing the whole album on a live tour that will continue through to the end of November, details of which can be found on the band’s website.
