thanks to runo and other friends The Best Live Album of All Time !, March 14, 2004 Reviewer: dakotamoviefan (USA) I purchased Carlos Santana and Buddy Miles Live on eight track tape in 1972 when it was first released, and I still consider it my favorite live music album (I now own the CD version). The brass sound that was popular in the early 1970's adds energy and pop to this live recording. I first heard the fast version of Evil Ways on this CD, and I still prefer it to the slower studio recording that is on the Santana Greatest Hits album. In fact, the first five cuts on this live CD are a wild ride. If I have a possible complaint about Carlos Santana and Buddy Miles live, it would be that it is too short. This is a foot pounding, energy induced, live album, and if you like Carlos Santana's music give it a listen. This is not happening, August 24, 2006 Reviewer: Ron Johnson (New York, NY United States) What is this? I wouldn't call this a Santana album. It lacks that spritual fire that penetrates the mind and heart and takes you higher and higher and deeper and deeper. It lacks the visual quality that is so present on his major projects. It doesn't have the lyrical quality. That "put your hands together"; "every body say yeah"; "every body stand up" doesn't do it for me. All that audience participation is corny and a coverup for a very poor performance. Evil Ways sounds like a poor cover band version of the song. This is not a good album. Review by William Ruhlmann From December 1971 to April 1972, Carlos Santana and several other members of Santana toured with drummer/vocalist Buddy Miles, a former member of the Electric Flag, and Jimi Hendrix's Band of Gypsys. The resulting live album contained both Santana hits ("Evil Ways") and Buddy Miles hits ("Changes"), plus a 25-minute, side-long jam. It was not, perhaps, the live album Santana fans had been waiting for, but at this point in its career, the band could do no wrong. The album went into the Top Ten and sold a million copies. (Reissued on CD on September 6, 1994.) |
