In 1992, in the midst of the Seattle sound's dominance, Dream Theater put out an album that was nearly the antithesis of everything that was running around in the mainstream. Despite the fact that the winds were blowing in the opposite direction, this album brought them a measure of mainstream success that they would not ever duplicate. Upon listening to this album again, it's not hard to hear why. Images & Words, straight up and without reservation, is a really good album - diverse, musical, fluid, and exciting. |
